Hi, there! Welcome to Crochet with Christine and my online community. I’m an online crochet teacher for kids ages 8-12. My favourite colour is purple, and when I’m not crocheting, I love reading and learning languages.
If your child wants to or is learning to crochet in 2026, but you don’t know where to start or how to support them with this hobby, you are in the right place, my friend.
This blog is here to help you, with posts on all sorts of topics related to crochet for kids. My goal is to hold your hand on the journey, provide tips and inspiration, and to make crocheting fun for your kids. While I won’t be sharing full crochet tutorials or patterns here, I will be sharing project ideas and helping your child (and you!) build a strong crochet foundation.
All my tutorials for stitches and patterns can be found in my online crochet course, Crochet Made Easy! Click here to learn more about the course.
I have been crocheting for over 32 years, since I was 10 years old. I’ll share my full story in a future post, but here’s the shorter version I tell my students. My mom was (and is) an excellent crocheter, and she always had at least one crochet project on the go when I was growing up. I thought it looked so cool, an one day I asked her if she’d show me a couple crochet stitches. She said yes, and showed me the chain stitch and the single crochet stitch, and I’ve been hooked ever since!
I teach kids to crochet for so many reasons, but here are my top 3.
I teach kids to crochet differently. I don’t teach complicated patterns or use technical vocabulary or crochet abbreviations, until kids have a strong understanding of crochet. I don’t focus on perfection, but rather on fun and passion. Perfection comes with time and practice. And even then, all crocheters make mistakes sometimes!
I teach kids to crochet with short, bite-sized lessons where the skills build over time. Stitches and patterns are taught slowly, step-by-step, and kids can go back and watch the videos as many times as they want. All the stitches I teach are practiced by making fun, kid-friendly crochet projects such as hair scrunchies, scarves, and bags. All my project ideas come directly from my students, and are all thoroughly tested by them, too.
If this all sounds good to you, be sure to stick around. And let me know if you have any questions, I’m here to help. I will be publishing new posts every 2 weeks. If your child would like to learn to crochet with me, be sure to check out my FREE Crochet Starter Guide. Click here to get your copy!
